computer recycling binWell, there certainly are wrong ways to dispose electronics. Here is a collection of 20 ways to improperly misuse or dispose electronics. I do believe in pity for those who have ever thought or done any of same things I have.

  1. Rigging a broken toaster to a cluster of helium balloons in the hopes it lands to the appropriate recycling facility.
  2. Placing your brand new TV on top of your old broken TV. Yes, this cannot hurt the environment, but what will your friends think?
  3. Developing a toaster sling shot. I do not even want to know where you are pointing it.
  4. Turning your desktop PC into a fish aquarium. Although this is creative, if you plug it in there could be unwanted consequences.
  5. Starting a backyard collection of broken appliances on a trailer. I mean just “Why?” I recently used Google Street to find a random house in downtown St.Pete. in Florida. I was amazed that the first thing I saw was in fact a refrigerator on the back of a trailer in someone’s yard.
  6. Doing a dumpster dive reversal. What is this you may ask? Simply disposing your electronics in a dumpster by going in full force inside and not recycling. That’s bad. Take a shower.
  7. Selling broken hard drives as car pedals for automobiles. If you have heard of this before, don’t buy one.
  8. Reaching over the side of your neighbor’s fence and dropping a broken microwave in his yard. Relax; I don’t think he will notice. (Depending on your neighborhood).
  9. Office Spacing your already broken printer in a field. Who exactly will pick up the pieces when you’re done venting the frustrations of TPS reports? On the same level, go rent office space if you haven’t seen it.
  10. Uncovering a sewer is not a great place to dispose a battery. Ninja turtles already have enough to deal with then cleaning up after you.
  11. Sending the XBOX 360 to Microsoft for a repair. You are just avoiding the inevitable.
  12. Converting your broken microwave into a pretty nifty hamster home. The front door is cool and all, but I’d only do this if you plan on recycling your hamster.
  13. Copy the guy who actually ate an airplane. If you need to get rid of a computer monitor, it can’t be that bad.
  14. Play World of Warcraft then spam in trade channel “looking for electronic recycling service, paying 50 gold, pst”. You know this one actually may work.
  15. Trying to develop your own transformer from a desktop PC, refrigerator, battery, and vacuum cleaner. Behold a robot that can clean while offering you a beer. I could say they have this prepackaged if you are in a relationship, but I enjoy sleeping in my own bed.
  16. Setting up an Ebay auction for your broken electronics and not telling anyone they are broken. Someone is going to be very surprised.
  17. Driving up to your local beach with the intention of releasing your blender back into the ocean. If I saw this it would leave me dumbfounded but at the same time amused.
  18. Burying your computer in your backyard as if someone important in your family passed on. If you are regular gamer and have gamer friends, you probably know someone who has done this.
  19. Converting your old refrigerator into a box car. Although this may be a fun project. Where are you going to park your fridge after your done racing it?
  20. Putting out a toaster in front of your house with a sign on it that reads “free to good home”. I hate you.
